A MAN and a woman were both taken to hospital after a serious accident on Haslingden Road in Blackburn.
The emergency services were called when a Fiat collided with a BMW just after half seven last night.
Blackburn Fire Service and Darwen Fire Service crews used cutting equipment to take off the roof of the Fiat, and free the two casaulties who are being treated for suspected spinal injuries.
An air ambulance was also called to the scene to take the woman to Preston Hospital, and could be seen on a patch of grass near The Willows pub.
While the man was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital.
Two off duty nurses were also on the scene and administered first aid to the man and woman. Both were from Blackburn Hospital.
Fire crews thanked the two nurses for their help.

Police, paramedics, firefighters and advanced medics left the area at around 9.15pm.
The incident is now under police investigation.
