MONDAY saw the start of Armed Forces Week in Bolton, commenced with the raising of the Armed Forces Day flag.

There was a short service on Victoria Square at the War Memorial, where veterans, serving personnel and standard bearers were invited to commemorate the members of the armed forces.

The flag raising was followed by a lunch in Bolton Town Hall for members and former members of the forces were invited.

Armed Forces Day itself will take place on Saturday on Victoria Square from 10am until 3.30pm.

There will be a formal service and wreath laying at 11am in commemoration of VE Day, VJ Day and other conflicts followed by displays, music, competitions, activities and interesting things to see for all the family.
