A MAN who injured his leg in a walk on Winter Hill was saved by search and rescue operatives.
Bolton Mountain Rescue Team were called in by police on Tuesday and sent a group of 11 people up the hill searching for the immobile walker at around 2pm.
The team quickly found his location using GPS technology and quickly reached the area, helping him with the injury.
He was found to have hurt his lower leg and was carried around half a mile on a stretcher before being taken to hospital in an ambulance.
Steve Fletcher, mountain rescue team leader, said: "This could have happened to anyone. He was well-equipped. He was walking and put his foot down and slipped."
The mountain rescue team covers a distance of 800 sq km stretching from Darwen in the north, to Manchester Airport in the south, Wigan to the west and the centre of Manchester to the east.
However, the group relies on volunteers to keep their operations going.
