BOXER Amir Khan got in some last minute training at his local gym before flying out to Saudi Arabia.

The two-time world boxing champion Amir Khan is preparing for a boxing match next month.

Initially the fight was against Neeraj Goyat but a car crash has put him out of action and a new opponent is being sought as Amir looks to rebound from his defeat to WBO World welterweight champion Terence Crawford in New York in April.

And before travelling out he was spotted at Total Fitness in Bolton, where he often trains out.

In the run up to the fight the Bolton sportsman embarked on an intense training programme at the club with his new training team putting him through his paces ahead of the fight.

And he found time to speak to club members, pose for photos and speak about how he is preparing for the bout.

Amir said: "I’m currently undergoing one of the most gruelling fitness programmes of my life. I’m working with a new team of trainers who are whipping me into shape and showing no mercy as I prepare to take on Goyat."

He said he chose to train at Total Fitness because it has a boxing ring as well as the equipment to facilitate his strength and conditioning programme which Amir said "is getting me into the best shape of my life."

He said:"Knowing how to throw the perfect punch isn’t enough, you’ve also got to have the highest level of all-round fitness and agility to stay at the top and this time I’m taking no prisoners.”

Paul McNicholas, Operations Director at Total Fitness, said it was great to welcome the box to the gym and be part of his training regime for the fight.

He added: “A boxer’s fitness is multifaceted and with our diverse offering we’re the perfect venue to help him with his preparations.

"He’s definitely been getting the most out of our facilities, particularly our extensive functional area with battle ropes, prowler track, Vipers and TRX, which help improve strength, muscular endurance, power, agility and timing, all critical fitness components for a boxer.

“Khan is an inspiration to both staff and club members and we’ll be backing him all the way in his fight against Goyat!”
