AN anti-Brexit campaign group has visited Farnworth to put up one of its infamous billboards.
Led By Donkeys, which has more than 247,000 Twitter followers plaster quotes from pro-Brexit politicians on billboards up and down the country.
The latest target is Conservative leader candidate Boris Johnson.
Taken from an interview with The Telegraph in 2007, about Gordon Brown becoming Prime Minister without being elected, the quotes read: “It’s the arrogance. It’s the contempt. That’s what gets me.
“It’s a transition about as democratically proper as the transition from Claudius to Nero. It is a scandal.”
The quotes have been emblazoned on a billboard in Egerton Street. Led By Donkeys described the quotes as “thermonuclear hypocrisy”, as Mr Johnson could soon become Prime Minister without an election.
James Sadri, one of the co-founders of Led By Donkeys said: “Everyone needs to know the extent of the lies from the people leading this Brexit catastrophe.
“With Boris, it’s the hypocrisy that he described Gordon Brown becoming Prime Minister as a scandal and now he is likely to become Prime Minister himself.”
The crowdfunded group was formed in January, following a chat between four friends in a pub. Since then, 300 billboards have been installed and more than £453,000 has been raised.
Mr Sadri added: “It’s a testament to the fact that people don’t just want to sit back and watch this slow motion car crash happen.”
The Bolton News has approached Boris Johnson’s office for comment.
