THERESA May has expressed her delight at Conservative-led Bolton Council's success in clearing the first hurdle towards a multi-million pound government grant to regenerate Farnworth town centre.

The town is one of 50 across the UK to get £150,000 to work up a business case for £25m from the Future High Street Fund.

At Prime Ministers Questions at Westminster yesterday, Bolton West MP Chris Green asked Mrs May: "Cross-party work can be immensely beneficial, Do you agree that an excellent example is Farnworth and Kearsley First’s work with the Bolton Council leadership, now Conservative, to win an award from the Future High Streets Fund?"

She replied: "I am delighted to hear that Bolton Council’s bid for Farnworth town centre has been successful in progressing to the next phase of the Future High Streets Fund. This cross-party working by Conservative-led Bolton Council has shown what can be achieved."
