FIREFIGHTERS have issued another reminder for people to get working smoke alarms after a fire was stopped in its tracks thanks to an early warning.

A Farnworth family was alerted to fire burning in their oven in the early hours after the smoke alarm sounded.

Fire crews were immediately called to the house in Medlock Close at 1am this morning and the fire was contained to the oven.

Farnworth fire station watch manager, Mike O'Neill, said: "It is very important to have a working smoke alarm.

"The smoke alarm had alerted the occupier and we were there within a couple of minutes.

"The early action prevented the fire from spreading.

"The fire was contained to the oven and there was no other damage. Once we put the fire out we disconnected the oven."
