A VILLAGE event is set to be resurrected this weekend following a six-year hiatus.

The popular Ainsworth Village Day will return on Saturday.

First held in 1979, the traditional event at Ainsworth Recreation Ground, opposite the Duke William, will bring together people of all ages.

The Mayor of Bury, Cllr Trevor Holt, will officially open the event at 12.30pm.

A host of groups are set to perform throughout the course of the day, including Footlights, Helens Angels and Bloco Ashê samba band.

The occasion, which continues until 5pm, will also feature a fun dog show, with categories including the waggiest tail, best rescue, most awesome eyes, and the pooch most like its owner.

Bakers will also be able to showcase their cake creations in the Ainsworth Bake Off, which costs £1 to enter.

The event also promises children's fairground rides, a tug of war at 4.30pm as well as a range of food and drink to purchase.
