A YOUTH centre which recently reopened to the public has been given the green light for the final stages of its redevelopment.

Farnworth Start Well and Young People Centre, which offers services to children, parents and childminders, has been refurbished over the last few months.

The last phase of construction, which includes some minor changes to the doors, windows and car park, was approved by the planning committee on Thursday.

Shadow children's services cabinet member Ann Cunliffe announced the redevelopment plans last year.

She said: “It was one of the many improvements we made to these Start Well centres with the aim of improving the lives of young people and children in the area to ensure that the most disadvantaged and vulnerable got the best start in life."

The newly-modernised centre opened earlier this year and services started running on June 10.

The centre in King Street is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.
