A NEW car park is set to be created near a retail area as the council's plans are given the green light.
Bolton Council will use an undeveloped piece of land near Tonge Local Shopping Centre to create six spaces.
The 200 square metre site at the junction of Tonge Old Road and Romer Street will be resurfaced and, once complete, be open for use by the general public.
Cllr Elaine Sherrington told the planning committee that this piece of land has been in a derelict state for a number of years.
The ward councillor said: "We as a council are putting our hands in our pockets and we are hoping it will be successful as a car park."
Councillors on the planning committee unanimously approved the proposal.
