I JUST wanted to air my grievance towards some other drivers in the Great Lever area who seem to have a complete disregard for basic road rules/signs and their own (and other peoples) lives.

During my short car journey home from work each day during the week, travelling up off Manchester Road, onto Orlando Bridge, then left at the roundabout, and right onto Lever Street, I continue on to pass two roundabouts, namely the Weston Street/Rishton Lane roundabout, then the Settle Street one a little further up.

Almost on a daily basis, I can guarantee that I will approach either of these roundabouts with severe caution due to countless incidents I’ve experienced where people have pulled straight out on me, completely disregarding the ‘give way to traffic on your right’ rule, which is a pretty basic, easy rule to follow if you want to stay alive!

These people always look at me as if I’m in the wrong when I react to their utterly dangerous driving and to be honest I am sick and tired of it now, so much so that I am going to change my route home just to avoid a crash caused by these lunatics who just don’t seem to care about their own or anyone else’s safety.

Just the other day, I had a driving instructor’s car, with a pupil driving it, pull straight out on me as I approached the Weston Street roundabout, right outside the test centre. It beggars belief!

I’m not sure if there’s a solution to this problem, other than just avoiding said roundabouts at busy times, because some people clearly do not care when all they want to do is just get home.

I think more signage would help, maybe some kind of flashing signs that clearly state ‘ROUNDABOUT AHEAD’, but, of course, that all costs money. I’m sure I’m not the only person that has had problems with other dangerous drivers at these roundabouts, but it would be interesting to hear from other drivers.
