MANCHESTER Airport is set to become one of three in the country where staff will join a campaign to battle modern day slavery.

MAG, the owner of Manchester, London Stansted and East Midlands airports, yesterday announced it would become a member of the Slave-Free Alliance.

The alliance is part of a charity which works to end modern slavery by preventing exploitation, rescuing victims and restoring their lives.

Airport staff will work with the charity on processes to identify and combat the risk of slavery within the building. This includes education and training about possible signs that someone may be a victim of exploitation.

Tricia Williams, chief customer officer at MAG, said: “We’re proud to be the first UK airport operator to become a member, and hope our work encourages others within our industry to do the same.

"There is no reason for modern slavery to exist in our society, and we will work hard to ensure it doesn’t happen in connection with our business.”
