A MOTHER and daughter are set to have their heads shaved to raise cash to fight dementia in memory of a close relative who died after a long battle with the disease.

Becky Barton, the cleaning supervisor at Blackburn market, and her student daughter Katy, hope their efforts will help boost specialist support for families in the same position.

The pair, who live in Darwen, already have sponsorship and donations amounting to more than £1,000 for Dementia UK.

The charity provides specialist support for families facing the impact of the disease and operate the Admiral Nurse scheme.

They were inspired to raise funds for the charity after losing Becky’s grandfather Clifford Cunliffe nearly three years ago after a long battle with dementia.

Becky said: “A work colleague has volunteered to shave our heads and Katy is just hoping enough will have grown back before she starts college again in September.

"We both wanted to do something positive to support people living with dementia after losing my grandfather to the disease and we have been overwhelmed with the support so far.

“It would be great if people can come along on the day to support us.”

People wanting to donate to the fundraising effort can visit the Blackburn Market Facebook page or bring donations to the event in the market at noon today. (SAT AUG 3)
