STAFF at Amazon in Bolton took part in a charity football tournament to help children and families affected by the Manchester Arena bombing.

Players from their Middlebrook site joined colleagues from their Manchester and Warrington operations to raise more than £1,000 for the cause.

Goals Manchester hosted the fundraiser for Once Upon A Smile, which has provided emotional and practical support to bereaved families.

Around 180 workers took part in the event, which forms part of the firm's community programme.

Paul Ashraf, Amazon's Bolton general manager, said: "It was fun to see everyone come together for a bit of friendly competition between the sites and support such an important cause in our community.

"We were all devastated by the attack in Manchester and Once Upon a Smile has been an incredible support system for all of the children and families who are coping with this tragedy.

"I was also very impressed by everyone’s football skills and wanted to say a huge congratulations to the Manchester team for being named the winner of the overall tournament."
