A TOTAL of 20 planning applications were refused by Bolton Council in July.

Most were decided by town hall planners but two were decided by the planning committee.

Half of the proposals were deemed to be detrimental to the character and appearance of the area. A fifth of the refusals were related to the impact on neighbours.

Here are the 20 applications that were refused in July and why.

  • Changes to door and window at Brogen Court, Lostock Lane, Lostock – Wrong application type
  • Changes to cladding and windows at former Swallowfield Hotel, Swallowfield Court, Bolton – Incompatible with character and appearance of the area and incongruous with street scene
  • Existing pay and display car park at Breightmet Street, Bolton – Needs to apply for temporary consent
  • Change of use from shops to restaurant or café at 661 Chorley Old Road – Insufficient information
  • Single-storey rear extension at 4 Ditton Brook, Westhoughton – Contradicts previous conditions
  • Garage demolition and extensions at 187 Newbrook Road, Atherton – Not lawful development
  • Two-storey extension with chimney and balcony at 795 Manchester Road – Inappropriate development in green belt
  • Single-storey rear extension at 79 Melbourne Road – Overbearing
  • Detached garage with new driveway and loft at 2 Greenleas, Lostock, Bolton – Not in keeping with street scene
  • First-floor extension at 1 Errington Close, Bolton – Detrimental to the character and appearance to the dwelling and the area
  • Retractable pergola, decking and bi-fold doors at 75-77 Lea Gate, Bolton – Not confirming to conservation area
  • First-floor rear extension at 19 Green Avenue, Bolton – Detrimental to the character and appearance of he area and living conditions of neighbours
  • Change of use to a restaurant with takeaway facilities at 156-158 Derby Street, Bolton – Detrimental to the living conditions of neighbours and the vitality and viability of local shopping centre
  • Front pillars and boundary walls with changes to window and doors at 12 and 14 Bradford Park Drive, Bolton – Detrimental to the character and appearance of the dwelling and the area, not good urban design
  • 48 houses at Singleton Avenue, Horwich – Loss of informal green space, detrimental to the character and appearance of the area
  • Felling of a sycamore at 2 Chapel Street, Stoneclough Radcliffe – Unacceptable tree loss, detrimental to the character and appearance of the area
  • Up to five houses at Cox Green Road, Egerton – Detrimental to the character and appearance of the area
  • Extensions to a pair of semi-detached houses at 12 and 14 Prestwood Road, Farnworth – Detrimental to the character and appearance of the area and living conditions of neighbours
  • Three detached dwellings at Dentdale Close, Lostock – Detrimental to the character and appearance of the area, effect on the wildlife corridor and highways safety
