A DRUG dealer who was caught with cannabis and £30,000 in cash in his bedroom and car has been sentenced to 120 hours of unpaid work.

Bolton Crown Court heard how police raided Adnan Zabir’s Leverhulme Avenue, Great Lever, home on November 28 last year.

Duncan Wilcock, prosecuting, told how police searched Zabir’s bedroom and found the cash in a shoe box and jacket pockets as well as a mobile phone beneath his mattress.

In a Toyota Auris parked outside they found snap bags of cannabis beneath seats and in the centre console as well as extra bags and a pair of digital scales.

Altogether there was 44.5g of the drug, worth a total of

£420.

When interviewed by police Zabir made no comment, but when his mobile phone was analysed there were messages from a number of people requesting drugs.

Zabir, aged 24, pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis with intent to supply.

Neil Fryman, defending, said that Zabir accepts he was dealing commercially to friends in order to pay for his own drug habit and to pay off a £2,000 debt.

He added that Zabir had turned to drugs to deal with the stress of learning that his brother has a life threatening illness.

He said that the majority of the cash found belonged to Zabir’s brother and the rest was his savings.

Judge Graeme Smith sentenced Zabir to six months in prison but suspended it for 18 months, adding that a relatively short custodial sentence would “benefit neither you nor society”.

In addition to the punishment of unpaid work Zabir was ordered to participate in 10 days of rehabilitation activities.
