STUDENTS at Rivington and Blackrod Sixth Form have maintained the high standards set in recent years by achieving another set of high scores.

The A Level pass rate for the school was just under 100 per cent, with almost one half of the grades at A*, A, or B.

In BTEC subjects, the sixth form is celebrating a 100 per cent pass rate, with almost all of these grades at Distinction or Distinction*.

Among the students with outstanding results were Mariam Hassan, who achieved AAB in Maths, Chemistry and Physics. She will be starting an Engineering with Biomaterials degree programme later this year.

She said: "Right now, I'm just in shock, I've never been like this before.

"I didn't sleep at all last night, when I did get a little sleep I started dreaming about the results!

"It's a massive stress off my shoulders today. I'm going to go and celebrate with my Grandma today."

Other high achievers included Elijah Horridge who got A*CC in Maths, Physics and Design and Technology. He got onto the Mechanical Engineering course of his choice. He said: "It's been a struggle and it's been difficult, but I got what I wanted and I got into university — that's what counts.

"It was all graft and a bit of luck. I'm excited to go to university and do some partying."

Hamza Ansari also celebrated great results with A*AB in Maths, Physics and Further Maths.

The three students will all be going to the University of Manchester in October.

Head of school Sarah Gibbs said: "Each young person should be very proud of what they have achieved.

"These excellent results are a reflection of of the hard work which has been put in by these students, and the care and support offered by their teachers and staff within school who all play their part in supporting out student to achieve success."

Another student who achieve her goals was Kate Stevenson. She is celebrating BB and a double Distinction*. Ms Stevenson is going to Sheffield University to study Education, Culture and Childhood.

She said: “I’m really proud of myself and I’m just relieved. I cried this morning!

"I’m going to miss it here, especially doing performing arts, so I’m definitely going to be taking it up as an extra curricular at Sheffield.”

Ms Gibbs added: "It is fantastic to see students getting the grades they richly deserve.

"These grades are a giant step forward for our students in terms of their life opportunities and provide as great basis for future study, and for obtaining worthwhile and rewarding careers.

"We wish all students well in their future."
