POLICE have confirmed that the body of a man has been found in the River Irwell close to Moses Gate Country Park.
The man, thought to be in his 30s, was discovered this morning (Wednesday) by a dogwalker in an area of the river which falls in Stoneclough.
Officers say there are "not believed to be any suspicious circumstances" surrounding the death.
The identity of the man has yet to be confirmed.
Residents spotted police cars in the car park at Moses Gate Country Park in the early hours of the morning but the body was not discovered until around 11.45am close to Kearsley Mill, off Seddon Lane, in Prestolee.
A spokesman for GMP said: "At 11.45am officers were called to reports of a dog walker who had seen a body in the river close to Crompton Road and Seddon Lane.
"The body of a man believed to be in his 30s had been recovered from the river.
"A scene remains in place and a post mortem is expected to take place in the next few days."
