PROUD Westhoughton High School students are looking forward to the next stage of their lives, well on their way to their career goals with fantastic results.

Across the school, 56 per cent of the students earned a four or above in English and Maths, and 36 per cent achieved a five or above in the same subjects.

Headteacher Phil Hart said: "Students and staff have worked hard again this year and we have celebrated some wonderful successes, secured upon considerable hard work from all involved.

"I would like to congratulate our class of 2019 and wish them well as they progress onto the next stage of their education."

Results day coincided with a special occasion for pupil Natalie Rea, who was also celebrating her 16th birthday today. She walked away with 9s in Maths, Chemistry and Physics, and 8s in Computer Science, Biology, Art and P.E.

Ms Rea said: "It's a great birthday present! It's been great to see how much I have improved, I am so surprised how well I did in Biology, I worked so hard for it."

The birthday girl will be going to Runshaw College to study Maths, Further Maths and Computer Science.

Another high achiever who will be joining Ms Rea at Runshaw is Livia Sutcliffe. Ms Sutcliffe is on her way to achieving her dreams of becoming a vet, after great results in the science subjects. She is looking forward to studying Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths in September and will be joining the Medic Society to work on becoming a vet.
