EACH week, the Bolton News publishes a round-up of some of the top five things to do in and around Bolton in the days ahead.

From bug hunting to a family trip to a market cinema, there is plenty going on this week.

Wandering museum

Visit an exhibition on Jewish history when it arrives in Bolton on Wednesday, August 28.

The Wandering Museum project is a two-year initiative from the Manchester Jewish Museum (MJM), anticipating the opening of a new Jewish museum next year. With funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, MJM is establishing a new museum at a former synagogue to tell Jewis stories of communities and identities past and present.

Children and adults alike can handle a variety of mystery items from Bolton Central Library and Museum’s collection, and they can even have a go at making your own ‘Synagogue in a Box’.

Admission is free, and the exhibition is a great opportunity to learn more about Jewish history and culture. The event, between 11am and 1pm, is suitable for all ages.

Hunt for bugs

This Tuesday and Thursday, the The HIVE education centre at Moss Bank park is hosting a bug hunt “speed challenge.”

Young explorers, aged four to 11, will comb the park’s woods and meadows against the clock, collecting as many bugs as possible. They will also be able to participate in craft activities and seed-planting. Tickets, at £4.50, are available on the Lancashire Wildlife Trust website.

If you’re thinking of taking up a new skill this summer, why not try drawing?

Hosted by a qualified art teacher, it’s a perfect environment to learn a new talent under supportive supervision.

The first week is free, and you can register online. And, if you enjoy it, the classes run weekly and cost just £10 for two hours, with an alternative session beginning on Mondays in September.
