A MAN was seriously injured after two cars collided at a busy junction.

The collision happened at the intersection of St Helens Road and Plodder Lane near to Four Lane Ends at around 11.30pm last night.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and fire crews had to cut one man from a vehicle.

The seriously injured man was taken to the Salford Royal Hospital and another person was said to have "slight" injuries following the collision.

A third individual involved in the crash fled the scene before the emergency services arrived.

Fire crews were on the scene for around 50 minutes during which time the road was closed.

Both vehicles involved are said to be "right offs", a fire service spokesman reported.
