TRAVELLERS have been warned to plan ahead this weekend as a number of major sporting events take place.
The weekend’s big competitions get under way on Saturday, September 14, when the region hosts the final stage of the 2019 Tour of Britain cycle race.
The event includes almost 2,000 metres of climbing, including the famous climb of the Rake at Ramsbottom, before finishing on Deansgate, in Manchester.
Road closures will take place across Greater Manchester, including parts of Bolton.
In addition, Saturday will see the return of Manchester United at Old Trafford following the footballing international break and on Sunday the city centre will host the HSBC Let’s Ride cycling event.
Stephen Rhodes, Transport for Greater Manchester’s customer director, warned people to plan ahead.
He said: “While we may be approaching the end of an amazing summer of sports and entertainment events, this weekend looks set to be another busy one - with some fantastic events taking place, that will increase demand on our roads and across the public transport network.”
