ONE of the town's most iconic buildings is set to open its doors to the public.
Smithills Hall will take part in the national Heritage Open Day programme by welcoming visitors to learn its history.
The Grade-I listed building is one of the best preserved manor houses in the region and has history in the area dating back to the 14th Century.
The Open Day will allow history experts to show visitors around the hall and tell stories about its long history.
The event will be held on Sunday, September 22. The hall is open from noon until 4pm and the free tours will take place at 12:30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm
