MRI scanners at Royal Bolton Hospital are operating at full capacity, health bosses have said.

The news was revealed at Bolton's clinical commissioning croup public board meeting yesterday.

Clinical director for commissioning Barry Silvert told the board that the CCG has commissioned additional MRI activity with Bolton NHS Foundation Trust in response to the pressures.

He said: "The MRI scanner at Royal Bolton Hospital is working 13 hours a day, every day. There really isn't any more capacity available. So that's going to be a challenge."

The rise in demand for MRI scanners has contributed to longer waiting times.
