A STRING of anti-social behaviour issues at a public library has forced councillors to reinstall a CCTV camera.

Residents living near the Bromley Cross Library in The Crescent complained to their ward representatives after groups of youths began gathering outside the building, leaving litter and ripping up plants from people's gardens.

It is hoped that the camera, which was installed last week, will deter bad behaviour. Footage will be reviewed to see who is involved in any incidents.

Bromley Cross councillor Nadim Muslim, who works as Bolton Council's cabinet member for stronger communities, said: "We have had issues in the past with anti-social behaviour, including youths hanging around there, leaving rubbish and pulling up flowers.

"We have put the camera there in the past and it did seem to deter people going into that area.

"It might coincide with the fact that students are going back to school and college but I have had no other reports of anti-social behaviour since the camera was installed."

Concerns about anti-social behaviour were raised at the Bromley Cross Area Forum, held at the library last Wednesday, September 11.

Attendees also spoke about a new neighbourhood watch system, with a number of people volunteering to be co-ordinators of the service in the future.

The forum was attended by around 20 people and included other ward representatives Cllr Samantha Connor and Cllr David Greenhalgh, leader of Bolton Council.
