Marco Players open their season next week, with the brilliantly funny comedy from Simon Williams — Nobody's Perfect.

The title, taken from the last line in Some Like It Hot, gives us a clue that we're in cross-dressing territory here.

The plot features boring statistician Leonard Loftus, played by Keiron Garlick, trying to further his writing career.

He enters a competition for romantic fiction, run by "Love Is All Around", a feminist publishing house — and wins!

Except, of course, as a man he is ineligible.

Step forward his fictitious Aunt Myrtle who he has invented in order to claim the prize.

"This is my first time with The Marco Players," said Keiron, "and it's been a real pleasure to be involved in a fast-paced comedy with such a friendly cast and crew."

Gail Costello, who plays publisher Harriet Copeland agrees.

She said: "Harriet is an interesting character who is conflicted between her heart and her business head.

"She has been great fun to play, but you'll have to come along to see which wins."

The cast is completed by Marco stalwart, Ian Duckworth, who plays Leonard's rascally father, Gus, and Rhiann Millington playing Dee Dee, Leonard's daughter, all of whom share the same flat, sometimes fractiously.

Rhiann said: " Playing Dee Dee has been so enjoyable, reminding me of my teenage years."

Ian added: "I hope I'm as full of life as Gus is when I'm in my dotage — he even gets expelled from his retirement home!"

Director, Mike Thomas, says he has relished bringing this hilarious comedy to life.

He said: "I read a review in The Stage which said, 'Nights at the theatre don't come any better than this' and I thought I'd love to get my teeth into it for The Marco Players opener this season — and I'm so glad I did."

Simon Williams, the play's author, is perhaps better known to many readers as the actor who played "James Bellamy" in TV's Upstairs Downstairs and has made something of a name for himself as a playwright in recent years.

Nobody's Perfect runs from September 25th to 28th at Stepping Stones Nursery.

Shows are7.30pm nightly.
