ARSONIST smashed a van's window and poured petrol into the cab before setting the vehicle on fire.
The attack, which is the second suspected vehicle arson in the town in less than 24 hours, happened at around 10.45pm last night, in Rigby Street, Great Lever.
The Mercedes Sprinter van had been parked outside the owner's house at the time, and the owner was present at the scene when fire crews arrived.
A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "The van had been deliberately set on fire by smashing the passenger window, and we found evidence of a petrol can inside.
"The fire originated in the passenger compartment and spread to the rest of the vehicle.
"Flames spread to the cargo the van was carrying which was plastic bottles.
"Police have been informed and the owner says he has CCTV evidence which he will be giving to the police."
