BOLTON Sea Cadets have been forced out of their meeting place due to electrical faults.

The building, 101 Castle Street, was closed immediately on September 6 after some category one faults were discovered during its four-yearly electrical safety check.

Cllr Elaine Sherrington, chair of the cadets, said: “We are all volunteers on the committee with one aim in mind, to provide training and enjoyment for the cadets in a safe environment.

“My fellow committee members, Carol Ogden and Megan Duxbury, have worked extremely hard to get the quotes for the work and settle the cadets in temporary accommodation.”

Cadets resumed meetings on Wednesday September 18, using the function room at The Withins pub in Breightmet.

Last Friday’s meeting was held at the Army Reserve Centre in Nelson Street. Updates on the location of the group’s meetings can be found on the Bolton Sea Cadets Facebook page.

The unit, which was established in 1942. It is hoped that the building will be able to open soon.

Tonge with the Haulgh Big Local, a community initiative, had to cancel some of the activities that took place at the venue, such as ‘Sew Good’ sewing lessons and the English for Speakers of Other Languages classes.

The Fibromyalgia and ME yoga group was suspended until the end of September. St Chad’s Church on Longworth Street took in three of the uprooted activities. Why Weight slimming club, Mind and Body Mondays, and the Pottering Shed have all moved to the church while the ‘Haulgh Hub’ has been closed.

Tai Chi for beginners moved to the Bolton Ukrainian Cultural Centre next doo.

This isn’t the first time Bolton Sea Cadets have had issues with the building.

In June 2013, the headquarters closed for the removal of asbestos.
