THE countdown to Christmas can begin as the stars of The Albert Halls’ Christmas pantomime came together to officially launch this year’s festive show.

Hollyoaks star Ray Quinn will lead the cast as Aladdin at the theatre from November 30-December 31 in what is being billed as “the biggest pantomime ever staged in Bolton”.

Producers Polka Dot Pantomimes promises audiences “spectacular scenery, dazzling costumes, spellbinding special effects, and lots of audience participation that will keep the whole family entertained and amused”.

Artistic director, Darren Maddison, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be in Bolton this year. It’s such a lovely building and the Albert Halls has a great reputation for putting on high class productions so it’s great to be here and have the opportunity to put our slant on pantomime.

“We put on a traditional family pantomime but with a modern twist that makes it accessible for both children and adults. Pantomime can be enjoyed by every generation, they can come together and watch a brilliant cast headed by Ray who is a brilliant performer. We’re going to have a really fun 48 shows.”

The Liverpudlian actor first found fame for his role as Anthony Murray in the Channel 4 soap Brookside between 2000 and 2003. However, Ray is perhaps best known for finishing as runner-up to Leona Lewis on the 2006 series of the X Factor. He went on to win the fourth series of Dancing on Ice in 2009 and the ‘All Stars’ series in 2014, before also winning the first series of Get Your Act Together.

“I came here on tour a few years ago and I remember the audience being really fantastic,” said Ray. “I’m really excited to be back. This will be a fun show for everyone - so just sit back and enjoy.”

Tickets are on sale for morning, matinee and evening performances, and start at £16.
