A LOCAL brewery is taking a taste of Bolton to the Lake District.

Northern Monkey Brewing are behind a new bar in popular tourist hotspot Bowness-on-Windermere.

Ryan Bailey, co-creator of Northern Monkey, said: “I love the brand and it’s good to see that more people are getting on board with that and getting Bolton town out there in a positive way.

“We’re a bit of a name across the North West now anyway but we’ve been given a chance to move the brand up to the Lakes and spread it further – we’re looking to find new friends to make more beers with.

“We’re nearly done with the work now, all the hard work is over, we just need to get it pretty now."

The project is a joint venture with Cumbrian brothers Scott and Gavin Jones. The pair already own FAB Interiors, next door to where the new establishment - called Boaters - will open on Saturday in a former soft play centre.

Boaters will offer traditional bar games like shuffle-board, a loyalty programme, and over 100 gins.

The family and dog friendly bar will also offer views of Lake Windermere to visitors.

Ryan co-founded Northern Monkey Brew Co in 2016 with Liam Convey, with Kevin Barber joining the duo in 2018.

The company started life in a garage in Astley Bridge, before Ryan and Liam decided to build a brewery.

At last week’s Bolton Business Awards, the company was a finalist for the 2019 Start-Up Business of the Year Award.

The brewers also won the North West Gold Award in the SIBA Regional Beer Awards for their Chocolate Treacle Porter “Underdog”, earning a silver in the National Awards 2018.

They also made “Film Club”, the world’s first Popcorn Stout.

There are now 15 beers in the company’s range, including an English Pale Ale, “The Last Drop, a Coffee Mild, “Reeny’s Beans”, and a Citra Pale Ale, “For Pete’s Sake!” Ryan will be running the bar for a short time, before the brothers take over day-to-day running.
