This week we are looking at the best ‘cheap eats’ in Bolton – and first on the list is Amico.

This quaint cafe is based on Corporation Street in the centre of Bolton and serves fantastic food at excellent value.

The Bolton News:

Amico – which means “friend” in Italian – lives up to its name with welcoming staff and attentive service.

Come for breakfast and enjoy a hot drink included in the price (just £5.95 for a small breakfast, or £7.95 for large). Or treat yourself to a lunchtime ciabatta or focaccia sandwich, for around £6.

As testament to Amico’s great offering, one customer raved: “Superb gem in the centre of Bolton.”

Another said: “Go to Amicos regularly, always lovely food and coffee.”

A third added: “I think this is one of if not the best little cafes in Bolton.”

Meals are available to take away or you can sit down in the market.

Odessa in Exchange Street is approaching near legendary status with office workers in Bolton town centre.

Punters queue out of the door most lunchtimes for one of the cafe’s brilliant value salads or wraps. Here, it pays to make friends with owner Alex McVey, who always looks after his regulars.

It does a mean breakfast too, as well as having a decent deli counter, and a nice range of local chutneys, cheeses and jams (try the new carrot cake jam – it’s well worth it).

You can sit in or take away – either way you’ll always get a warm welcome.

The Bolton News:

MISTO Pizzeria on Lee Lane in Horwich serves a wide variety of pizzas, pastas and more at excellent prices.

Many of the pasta dishes and risottos retail for under £7 and bring the best of Italian cuisine to Bolton. And if the prices themselves weren’t reason enough to pay a visit, you can bring your own drinks to accompany your meal.

The restaurant is open every evening except Monday.
