A FORMER discount store is set be turned into an indoor climbing centre as plans to convert the retail unit have been approved.

The empty unit at Central Retail Park, in Manchester Road, used to be Poundworld until it closed last August.

An application submitted by the owners of the retail park to change the use of the building has now been approved by council officers.

Planning agents Quod have said the most likely tenant for the building is international climbing and activity centre chain Clip 'n Climb, after the business expressed a 'firm interest' in the disused unit.

The new climbing centre could create ten new jobs.

It is understood that a deal with Clip 'n Climb is not yet complete.
