OLDHAM Athletic boss Dino Maamria insists tonight’s Leasing.com Trophy tie is an important game for his side.

The former Stevenage manager will be taking charge of his fourth game at the Latics helm having replaced Laurent Banide.

The Frenchman lasted just 11 games at Boundary Park with Oldham currently 21st in League Two after a stuttering start to the season.

After a win, a draw and a defeat in his opening three matches, Maamria wants to see his side keep progressing, whatever the competition.

He is also keen to win over supporters in the early days of his reign.

“We’ll look back at the game on Saturday and reflect on it,” he said after the 1-1 draw at home to Cheltenham.

“The things we did well and the things we need to do better and then we’ll see what team we’ve got fit to play Accrington.

“We’ll try and be as strong as we can, I want to win games.

“It’s an important game for us, it’s at home and I want to make sure whoever turns up on Tuesday night that we put a performance on for them as well.”

Despite seeing his side pegged back by the Robins, Maamria is encouraged by what he’s seen.

"It's a work in progress and you can't do it all in one week,” he said.

“But we're in a better place now than we were probably two or three weeks ago in terms of the way we play, in terms of going forward and in terms of the resilience of the team as well.”
