Vandals have caused "tens of thousands of pounds" worth of damage to Diamond buses.

The damage reportedly happened on Saturday night when youths entered the Weston Street depot in Great Lever.

The company said a "significant" number of vehicles were targeted, with broken windows and damaged panels reported.

A spokesperson for Diamond said: "Due to the amount of vandalism that occurred over the weekend Diamond Bus North West are unable to put out a full fleet of vehicles to serve its customers.

"We are working closely with local contractors to get these buses fixed as soon as possible so we can get the buses back into service as soon as possible so we can give the passengers of Greater Manchester a service which they rely on.

"We can't put a price on this yet, one vehicle had multiple windows smashed, and we have to consider the cost of buses being off the road for that length of time, drivers not being able to work, and administration charges, but this can run into tens of thousands of pounds."
