EVER wanted to be a star in your favourite film? The residents, staff and supporters of a Bolton charity did – so they put themselves in the picture, literally.

Now, photos of them “starring” in everything from The Godfather to the Addams Family, and from Harry Potter to Charlie’s Angels, are helping raise money for young homeless charity BACKUP North West in a special movie magic calendar.

And CEO Maura Jackson couldn’t be more delighted.

“The idea came from photographer Julie Lomax originally. She wanted to do a calendar of landscapes. I on the other hand wanted something different and I love films,” explained Maura.

“I googled the top 100 iconic films, disregarded all the inappropriate ones, put the idea to Julie and she loved it. I also wanted to do something that would involve and include people. So we had a lot of fun on the photo shoots and I’d like to thank everyone involved – they were definitely game for a laugh!”

Those taking part included Bolton at Home CEO Jon Lord, business couple Suzy and Ronnie Orr, members of Unique Ladies, Jon Gardner and Stewart Astbury from Surestore, social media expert Julie O’Hara Gradwell, Chris and Lindsay Dawes from Scruffymonkey Web Design and their daughter Emma, Jayne Hill, Victoria Mair and Nicola Kay.

“My grandchildren Ruby, aged eight, is Wednesday Addams and grandson Louie, aged one, is Pubert – he was completely bewildered,” added Maura. “My dog Che featured as Toto in The Wizard of Oz. He was the most well behaved of them all!”

The films also depicted include Home Alone, Goldfinger (involving Julie O’Hara Gradwell painted gold which took two hours to apply), Snow White, Star Wars, Grease and Singing in the Rain.

If all the calendars are sold, the money will fund 142 nights of emergency accommodation for young people who might otherwise have to sleep rough and be at risk.

The calendar was sponsored by Wall to Wall Carpets, Linkedupcomms, AWK Computers, Hill and Johnstone Wealth Management, Unique Ladies, Bolton at Home, Surestore, Sarah Graham Travel Counsellor, Kathryn Wilkinson Wealth Management, Environmental Leadership, Carroll Holman insurance brokers, Boo Coaching and Consulting and Breeze underwriting.

The calendars are on sale for £10 each from the BACKUP offices at Surestore off Manchester Road, by post, by BACS by ringing 01204 520183 or email the website backup-charity.org.uk The charity will also be selling calendars in Bolton’s Market Place on November 9 and 23.
