AN Oswaldtwistle businessman and his son are gearing up to walk through the night to raise money for the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), a charity dedicated to preventing male suicide.

Paul Dwyer, managing director at luxury bathroom brand Thomas Crapper, and his son Joe will join others in central London on October 26 for CALM’s first Lost Hours Walk.

Starting at 11pm at Greenwich, walkers will either walk 20 miles to Big Ben and back again, or the shorter 10 mile route to The Oval.

Paul said: "Suicide sadly affects so many people, and particularly men.

"The work CALM does to support people and encourage changes in society to prevent people reaching that point of despair is fantastic.

"I learnt about the charity through my son Joe who became aware of them through his work as a student ambassador at university.

"When the opportunity came up to support CALM through the Lost Hours Walk, we were both eager to get involved.

"We’re just hoping the weather will be kind."

CALM is a leading a movement against suicide, the single biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK and the cause of 18 deaths every day.
