AROUND 25 people got together on Sunday afternoon in a community walk which was organised in support of mental health awareness day earlier this month.

Steven Darby, who lives in Leigh, was on a walk with his three-year-old son George when he came up with the idea to set up an event to encourage other people to join them on a trek.

After a strong response on social media, people of all ages joined Steven and George at the Railway pub at 1pm before they walked to Pennington Flash Country Park and back.

The Twist Lane pub offered tea and coffee to the walkers after the event as well.

Counsellor Stuart Pemberton also took part in the walk to offer support to people.

Steven, 27, said: "The walk was about building community spirit and friendships.

"Some people may feel isolated so it was nice to go on the walk and speak to people they possibly wouldn't be speaking without it.

"It is nice that everyone came together - that was most important thing."

Steven hopes there will be a walk on the last Sunday of every month.

The next walk will take place on Sunday, November 24, which will start at the Railway pub at 1pm.
