POLICE have rushed to a Bolton street amid reports of a person on a roof.

Police are at the scene of a residential street in Deane as emergency services attend a person on the roof of a house after they were called to an assault in the street. They have taped off the road as the situation unfolds.

Greater Manchester Police say they were called to Thornbank early this morning to reports of an assault. When they arrived at the address at around 8.25am, officers found a man on the roof. It is understood that he remained there.

More police arrived throughout the day to deal with the incident and police cars are still lining the pavements of Thornbank. A cordon is still in place stretching from the Fern Street to Blackshaw Street area.

Officers appear to be talking to the person on the roof, who has been walking and sitting on the tiles, according to reports from worried neighbours.

It is unknown as of yet exactly why the person is on the roof and what actions the police will take.

Greater Manchester Police told The Bolton News: "At around 8.25am this morning, police were called to Thornbank in Bolton to reports of an assault.

"Officers attended and on arrival found a man on the roof.
