A POPULAR post office branch could be about to move in a bid to bring the service up to date.

A consultation over the future of the branch off Brackley Street, Farnworth, has been launched with the Post Office proposing to move the outlet a few doors down to Zam Zam News, also in Brackley Street.

The company says that the new branch would operate as one of its “new-look, main style branches” in a dedicated area of the store.

It also promises to create a “modern, open plan” Post Office, by adapting the current store layout, fixtures and fittings to accommodate the service.

The branch will feature two screened and two open-plan positions offering a full range of Post Office products and services.

A Post Office consultation overview said: “As you may be aware, this branch has been operated on our behalf by a temporary Postmaster.

“We have therefore had to identify an alternative location to continue to offer Post Office services to the local community. A new agent has been identified to operate the above Post Office.

“Our priority is to safeguard Post Office services to the local community. The relocation of Farnworth Post Office will enable us to maintain a Post Office service to our customers in the local community.”
