BOLTON West MP Chris Green has backed two projects to improve disabled access at railway stations in his constituency.
The Conservative backbencher has written to the Department for Transport supporting ‘Access for All’ bids for new handrails on the ramps at Westhoughton station and a new seated resting area at Lostock station.
In support of the Bolton Station Community Development Partnership’s plans to develop unused first-floor space at the station into a community hub for all, Mr Green has also urged the government to provide money for a new lift and other access improvements.
Mr Green said: “It is so important that our railway stations are accessible to everyone, which is why I’m pleased to be supporting both of these projects, that will improve railway access for those in wheelchairs, people with prams or those with heavy luggage.
“We have already seen Daisy Hill railway station’s successful bid for funding to improve its step-free access from the government's ‘Access for All’ scheme."
