A MAN has been airlifted to hospital in a serious condition after falling from a height.
The man, aged in his mid 40s, was taken to the major trauma centre at Salford Royal Hospital after the incident in Farnworth yesterday afternoon.
There was a large emergency response, with an air ambulance landing in the town centre off King Street near Farnworth Market.
A shop worker, who asked not to be named, said: "We saw a paramedic car turn up then an ambulance then a private doctor, then two more ambulances, and then an air ambulance landed on Farnworth Market.
"The incident happened at the former cafe that is being done up.
"They have been working on it for a couple of months. There is no signage up so we don't know what it is going to be."
The incident is understood to have happened at the former Cole's coffee bar in Market Street.
A spokeswoman for the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) said: "We were called shortly before 3.30pm. We have attended with an ambulance, a rapid response vehicle, an air ambulance and our hazard area response team.
"A man in his mid 40s has been taken to hospital in a serious condition."
