A SPOTLIGHT will shine on the youth of today at the Market Place.

The shopping centre is taking part in this year's Bolton Light Festival by staging "Light up Your Life", an event aimed at Bolton's young people.

Highlights include performances from the stars of the Octagon Theatre's latest production Seagulls.

There will also be entertainment from Bolton FM and a variety of stalls.

Nikki Wilson-Cook, Centre Manager, Market Place said: "We’re really looking forward to hosting ‘Light up your life'.

"Its set to be a great social event with lots of great entertainment in store.”

The event is billed as "a great opportunity for youngsters of Bolton to come together, meet new people and socialise, while enjoying free entertainment and a variety of merchandise, just for them".

This year Bolton Light Festival celebrated in spectacular style the Hindu Festival of Diwali — with a stunning display of artwork which was projected on the front of Bolton Town Hall.

The artwork was designed by local school children and community groups, who created and painted individual pieces of art depicting what the concept of home means to them.

There was also an awe-inspiring torch lit procession with large lantern images made its way to the square from the Market Place

And on Saturday the Market Place Shopping Centre will have an array of stalls including a fair trade stall, a book stall, a stall run by local gaming café ‘Cherry Moon’ which combine their dining offer with video and board games.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy a make-up stall and a variety of art activities. Local traders, organisations and community groups are also taking part on the day. The event runs from 1pm to 4pm.
