A BURY teenager is a four-time world champion – and looks like he is only just getting started.

Lewis George already has a long list of achievements in Muay Thai at the age of just 14.

Now the Derby High School pupil has returned from the World Championships in Italy where we won another title representing Great Britain.

The teenager saw off French, Italian and Israeli opposition to come out on top in Marina Di Carrara, between Genoa and Florence, and return home with a gold medal.

“All his opponents were much bigger and stronger,” said dad Mark, who travelled with his son to the event.

“It was a great experience for Lewis and he learned a lot when he had to dig deep.

“I just want to say a big thank you to Peter Spensley, manager of the Great Britain team, for the opportunity.

“He goes above and beyond to make dreams happen for the kids.”

George had before that won his third world title at the Doncaster Dome by getting the better of a tough Dutch opponent to win the ICO Junior World Champion at 48kg. That saw him put in a fine performance over the five rounds before being given the unanimous decision on the Science of Eight promotion run by one of his trainers Andy Howson.

The Bury teenager fights out of the Bad Company Gym in Leeds run by Richard Smith and Lisa Houghton Smith.

George has been there since January, travelling to train five times a week, having private sessions with eight-time world champion Liam Harrison on a regular basis.

Currently ranked No.1 in the UK, he has around 20 belts in his collection.

The world titles have come in Muay Thai and K1 with two European, seven British, two English and one North West honour all picked up along the way with more on the horizon.

Having been out in Italy, George will be looking to delight his home crowd at the Johnny T’s Gym show in Prestwich on November 30 when he takes on a French opponent in a European title fight.

He is sponsored Bury Skip Hire, Obsidian Detailing, Origins Media, TG Silencers in Rochdale, Daz’s Autos, Stockport and Tameside Garden Services, Paddock Garage and Say Scaffolding.
