The Royal British Legion (RBL) raised over £23,000 from Manchester Poppy Day.

Volunteers from across the Armed Forces community, including veterans and cadets, came together on Thursday to support the Poppy Appeal.

A poppy bus, provided by Diamond, was transporting volunteers from 8am-9pm, and raised more than £8,000 from bus collections.

Judith Reay, the community fundraising manager for the North West from the RBL, said: "I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported us and Diamond for providing the bus.

"It's hugely important to have a bus and we're very grateful – our volunteers being warm and comfy makes such a difference.

"Supporting our Armed Forces is just as, if not more, important now than it was when the British Legion was founded over 100 years ago.

"It's thanks to the generosity of the public – we couldn't provide that support for our military without them."

The 2018 Poppy Appeal raised just under £1m, and the charity are hoping to match or beat that figure.
