A SHOPPER has spoken of her "disgust" after she allegedly spotted a rat in an Asda store.

Ebony Kay, 16, claims she saw a rat run across a ledge inside the Asda Farnworth Superstore in Brackley Street.

She has shared a video of the rodent running along the rafters inside a building.

The footage has been shared more than 1,400 times on Facebook, and attracted hundreds of comments.

Supermarket bosses say they are looking into the incident "as a priority".

The 16-year-old told the Bolton News: "I was at the bottom end of the store where the clothes were and I was walking towards the drinks aisle when I saw something really big above the clothes.

"I just videoed it on my phone and I thought it was very disgusting.

"We have shopped at Asda for a very long time and never heard anything like this so after seeing the rat it was pretty disappointing.

"I was so shocked with the amount of views the video had and the amount of people who were just as disgusted as me."

The girl said that a member of staff was informed of the sighting, which allegedly occurred on Saturday at about 5.45pm.

A number of people have commented on the teenager's post to say they will not be returning to the store.

Others echoed the girl's comments, describing the rat as "disgusting", while still others posted that the rat "looked massive".

An Asda spokesperson said: “We take all matters of health and safety incredibly seriously and are looking into this incident at our Farnworth store as a priority.

"We have robust processes in place to ensure that if a risk is identified we manage the problem quickly and effectively and these processes are now under way.’’
