THERE are long delays on the M60 after a woman fell off a bridge.

Police said the woman had fallen from the bridge above the clockwise side of the motorway near junction 22.

The motorway was closed between junctions 23 and 24 around Ashton-under-Lyne in Tameside following the incident shortly before 3pm today.

The incident has caused heavy congestion with both carriageways of the M60 affected after the incident, with all motorists urged to remain in their vehicles.

Police have now confirmed that all lanes on the motorway have reopened.

Metrolink services have also been hit.

The woman has been taken to hospital with serious injuries but which are not life-threatening.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "Police received reports shortly after 3pm today that a woman had fallen from a bridge above the clockwise side of the M60 near junction 22.

"Emergency services attended the scene and have taken the woman to hospital with injuries that are currently believed to be serious but not life-threatening.

"All lanes have now re-opened."
