Bolton Lads and Girls Club were rewarded for their hard work at Sunday's first ever OnSide Youth Zones Awards.

The ceremony, held at the Royal Albert Hall in London, rewarded young people for their exceptional achievements, presenting awards to people who have made a difference to their community, overcome challenging circumstances, or show exceptional talent.

The youth club walked away with two awards, The OnSide Sports Award and Individual of the Year.

The sporting award was given to Cindy N for her work in boxing at the BLGC.

Cindy arrived in the UK from Cameroon in 2014, when she spoke very little English, and is now the U21s female champion in the sport with Olympic dreams.

Member of staff Amy was presented with the title of Individual of the Year by musician John Newman.

Amy is described as an inspiring, positive, and passionate person who has represented the club as a member and volunteer before joining the team of staff.

Six other awards were presented to members of other youth clubs in the country, with a Gold award also presented to Jesy from Little Mix.

Bolton dance crew D.I.C.E took to the stage to open the show, performing ahead of world-renowned artists to an audience of thousands of people, including HRH Prince Harry.

The Duke of Sussex attended a reception to meet the attendees and award nominees, before delivering a speech and presenting the Health and Wellbeing award.

Kathryn Morley, Chief Executive at OnSide Youth Zones, said: “I am delighted that our first annual awards ceremony was a huge success.

"All of the acts were incredible. It was wonderful to shine a light on Youth Zones which have such a transformational effect on the lives of young people.”

OnSide Youth Zones is a national charity for young people which has 13 state-of-the-art centres across the country.
