A BRICKLAYER has been banned from the roads after he was caught drink driving in his Ford Transit van on Castle Street, Bolton.

Bolton magistrates heard how Samuel Howarth, aged 32, of Yewdale Gardens, Breightmet, was stopped by police at half past midnight on November 1 after they noticed the van's tail light was out.

Tess Kenyon, prosecuting, said that the officers smelled alcohol on his breath, he fail a roadside test and was arrested.

Howarth, who represented himself in court and has no previous convictions, told magistrates that he had been giving a friend a lift home.

Howarth was banned from driving for 12 months, fined £200 and ordered to pay £117 in costs and charges.
