A NEW car dealership could be built near the town centre as the latest proposals to transform an industrial estate have been revealed.

Plans have been submitted for a car dealership with a valet and repair shop at the former Meridian Court off Manchester Road in the Burnden area.

Landowners Euro Garages has revealed the next stage of the development affecting the site previously occupied by the United Utilities building which has been demolished.

This comes after plans for a new petrol station and fast food drive-thru restaurant at the site were approved last month.

A new McDonald's restaurant and petrol station will be built as part of the plans by the Blackburn-based billionaire brothers, Mohsin and Zuber Issa.

There will also be a total of six industrial units constructed at the land south of the former Meridian Court building between Bradford Avenue and Kearsley Drive.

PWA Planning submitted the planning application for the 1.1-hectare site on behalf of Monte Blackburn Ltd, part of the Euro Garages group.

The proposed car dealership would have 165 car parking spaces located to the south of the site which would be used for staff and customers – but some of the spaces will be used for cars for sale.

There are also further parking areas around the building including two mobility spaces.

The floorspace of the dealership would measure 1,402 square metres with a mezzanine of 383 square metres. There is also a valet and repair unit planned to the very south of the site which has a floorspace of 240 square metres which would be used ancillary to the main use as a car dealership, according to the application.

It said: "The proposed development represents an entirely appropriate form of development within the application site and should be supported."
