THE gritters will hit the streets tonight to prep Blackburn with Darwen for another predicted cold night.

Blackburn with Darwen Council's gritters will be heading out at around 6pm, after the minimum temperature is predicted to be around -1.3C.

A council spokesman said the minimum temperatures will be from 7am on Tuesday to 10am.

The spokesman said: "The forecast is cold and mostly cloudy, with one or two showers possible early this afternoon.

"Dry and cold overnight, with cloud clearing later in the night and road surface temperatures dropping below zero in places.

"A risk of a hoar frost on the roads.

"Some very local icy patches cannot be completely ruled out in any damp spots.

"Confidence remains low due to uncertainty in cloud cover amounts later in the night.

"Dry and bright tomorrow morning."
